ASSISTANT UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN FOR LIBRARY SYSTEMS
The University of North Carolina Charlotte announces an exciting opportunity
to join the senior management team of the J. Murrey Atkins Library as
Assistant University Librarian for Library Systems. The position reports to
the University Librarian and has primary responsibility for the technical
infrastructure in the Library's new state-of-the-art facility, including
the Information Commons as the central point of entry to information
resources. The Library has a strong tradition of service to undergraduates
and a growing number of graduate programs, and a philosophy of
anywhere-anytime access to information resources. It uses the Innovative
Interfaces, Inc. Millennium System.
Responsibilities:
The AUL for Library Systems will work closely with Library units to define
their system needs and ways of meeting them. He/she will continue the
development of the Library's systems plan, will coordinate Library systems
development activities, will manage implementation of enhanced services,
will facilitate and support the use of new technologies in teaching and
learning, and will be the primary liaison between Library staff and
Computing Services staff. He/she will be responsible for keeping Library
staff abreast of emerging information technologies relevant to academic
libraries and will provide or facilitate ongoing training opportunities.
Supervises one librarian and four support staff.
Qualifications:
* An appropriate master's degree (All other qualifications being
equal, preference will be given to candidates who have an MLS degree from a
program accredited by the American Library Association.)
* A minimum of five years experience in automation and networks,
preferably in an academic setting
* A minimum of two years supervisory experience
* Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in web based information
and data storage, search, and retrieval
* Demonstrated knowledge of how integrated library systems, electronic
information resources, and microcomputer hardware and software should be
integrated to provide relatively seamless access to the world of information
* Demonstrated knowledge of database management systems and web
authoring tools
* Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and project management
skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for change
* Initiative, creativity, and ability to work effectively in a
changing organizational and technological environment
* A strong belief in and commitment to team-based leadership and
operational support

This is a full-time, tenure-track position. Excellent benefits package.
