ANNOUNCEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL OPENING -- Available September 2001
POSITION: Associate University Librarian for Systems, Technical and
Access Services
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership in planning, implementing, and
evaluating information technology, including the Library's online
integrated system, electronic resource delivery, and emerging digital
initiatives. Serve as liaison to campus and consortial providers of
information technology systems support and services. Provide leadership
in the areas of Technical Services, Access Services, and the Government
Information Center (5 professionals and 23 FTE support staff) and
supervise the Library's Systems Office (1 FTE). Lead the Library Web
Team in managing the Library's web site and gateway access to library
systems, electronic resources and services. Participate in general
library planning, budgeting, and policy development as a member of the
Library Administrative team.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS with minimum of five years
relevant experience, preferably in an academic environment. Experience
with managing the operation of integrated library systems, access to
web-based electronic resources and networked desktop computing hardware
and software. Knowledge of emerging technologies and library
applications. Strong background in technical and access services.
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated success with
collaborative teambuilding. Supervisory experience, second Master's
degree in a subject area and evidence of appropriate research and
professional activities strongly preferred.
CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY: Northeastern is a state-supported,
multi-cultural, commuter institution located on the north side of
Chicago. It has an enrollment of approximately 10,500 students in
undergraduate and graduate programs. The Library maintains a collection
