POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Librarian II – Access Librarian
The Dick Smith Library of Tarleton State University is seeking a
motivated, energetic, user-centered individual to serve on Public
Services team. Reporting to the Division Head for Public Services, the
Access Services Librarian is a new position requiring commitment to
public services and desire to provide access to patrons through ILL,
E-reserves, Circulation, and Stacks Management. Coordinates distance
learner services and participates in reference desk rotation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES. The Access Services Librarian provides
leadership for Access Services within a collaborative library
environment, including the planning, supervision, and daily operations
of circulation, course reserves, interlibrary loan, distance education,
and document delivery services. This position supervises support staff
(Circulation/Reserves, ILL/Document Delivery, Information Desk, and
Stacks Maintenance) and multiple student assistant positions. Plans,
develops, administers and evaluates library access services to faculty,
staff, students and outside users, particularly in the broad area of
Access Services. Mentors the staff and creates opportunities for their
career development. Leads the planning, development, management and
ongoing support of circulation and access services policies, procedures,
including the development of new technologies. Provides a leadership
role in assuring full and equal access to library collections and
facilities for all user populations. Works closely with other Library
staff to provide consistent, high-quality Access Services throughout the
Library system.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS. ALA accredited MLS; At least two years of
experience in academic library circulation and/or interlibrary loan
department(s). Demonstrated experience in use of automated library
circulation, reserve, interlibrary loan, and document delivery systems.
Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, supervisory, and
communication skills. Understand information and bibliographic
management systems and their application to access and user services.
Working knowledge of ILL automated systems. Must be able to work a
variable 40-hour workweek with evenings weekends required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS. Responsible management and supervisory
experience, particularly in Public Services or Reference.
SETTING. Tarleton State University, a regional university supporting
7,500 undergraduate and graduate students is located in Stephenville,
Texas, one-hour southwest of Fort Worth. A member of the Texas A&M
University System, Tarleton is committed to academic excellence.
SALARY & BENEFITS. Starting salary of $30,000 for 12 months; choice of
medical and retirement programs; no state or local income taxes; state
vacation and holidays.
