Cyberspace Nurse Answers
15,000th Question
Cincinnati, Ohio [April 6, 2001] A nurse from NetWellness (netwellness.org),
the non-profit consumer health web site, recently answered the 15,000th
question submitted through its popular "Ask an Expert" service. Ask an
Expert features over 200 health and medical faculty from the University of
Cincinnati (UC), The Ohio State University (OSU), and Case Western Reserve
University (CWRU) who answer all legitimate questions, usually within two to
three days. The service is anonymous and NetWellness guarantees the privacy
of people who visit the site. Started in June 1995, NetWellness was one of
the first health sites on the Internet.
Tina Weitkamp, RNC, MSN, Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing, College of
Nursing, University of Cincinnati, answered the 15,000th question by
explaining how long postpartum depression lasts. "NetWellness helps me to
maintain my clinical nursing practice. You come across situations on the
Internet that you don't come across one on one in clinical practice.
NetWellness has opened a whole new dimension of Cyberspace nursing and it's
given the College of Nursing recognition through the Internet,
presentations, and publications," says Weitkamp.
Another recent milestone in Ask an Expert includes Henry J. Kaminski, MD,
Associate Professor, Department of Neurology, CWRU, answering over 500
questions on Myasthenia Gravis, a rare autoimmune disease. Recent
developments from OSU include the creation of 10 dental topics by 33 College
of Dentistry faculty (28 dentists, 5 dental hygienists) in Children's
Dentistry, Braces, Dental Anesthesia, Crowns, Bridges, and Implants, Dental
Health for Seniors, Dental Hygiene, General Dentistry, Gum Diseases, Mouth
Diseases, and Surgery of the Face & Jaw.
NetWellness is a non-profit consumer health Web site that provides high
quality information created and evaluated by health professions faculty at
the University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, and Case Western
Reserve University.
