Job Description
Network Information Specialist
The ERIC Clearinghouse on Information Resources seeks a temporary,
full-time Network Information Specialist to run a service called ASK
ERIC. This special project is being funded by the U.S. Department of
Education to examine the need for and the nature of information
services delivered over the Internet. The project will run from
October 15, 1992 - March 31, 1993.
Duties will include helping to plan the service and announcing it on
selected state networks; using the ERIC database, online resources,
and other materials to respond to user inquiries within 48 hours;
coordinating with other ERIC Clearinghouses to route inquiries
according to subject matter; and collecting data to track inquiries
and responses. Work will be performed at the Clearinghouse on a
full-time schedule (37 1/2 hours a week) to be set with input from
the candidate.
Salary: $11,320.83 for the 5.5 month appointment.
Qualifications: A master's degree in library science, information
resources management, educational technology, or computer science
(masters candidates will be considered); knowledge of the Internet
and experience using electronic mail. Desired: knowledge of other
Internet functions, experience in handling user inquiries,
familiarity with the field of education, and familiarity with ERIC.
