VACANCY NOTICE
POSITION:
Windows NT Network Programmer/Analyst
CLASSIFICATION:
Professional, SL-4
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The University at Albany Libraries seek to hire a NT Networking
Programmer/Analyst. Reporting to the Head of Library Systems, the
successful candidate will
oversee the development and maintenance of Windows NT-related services in
the University Libraries. The Library Systems Department supports both Unix and
NT servers and over 450 public and staff PCs. Library Systems include the
Geac ADVANCE library management system (Unix), web servers (NT/IIS and SQL
Server with Active Server Pages), proxy servers (NT/EZProxy), electronic
reserves (Linux/ ERes), Interlibrary Loan (NT/CLIO and ILLIAD), bindery
(NT/LARS), and a number of administrative applications (NT/Microsoft Access
and Excel, file-sharing, printer-sharing). Provides training and assistance in
individual and group settings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Baccalaureate degree with at least 12 credit hours in Computer Science
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated experience setting up and managing NT web servers
Experience with a web scripting language (e.g. Perl, VBScript, Javascript)
Experience with Windows 95/2000 desktop support
Ability to teach users of all levels of computer knowledge.
Preferred:
Ability to program in Visual BASIC using Active Server Pages
TCP/IP networking experience including troubleshooting
Ability to program in C or C++
Knowledge of Windows applications(Office, WordPerfect, Eudora,Internet
Explorer, Netscape)
Knowledge of library systems (e.g. OCLC, Geac ADVANCE) and library
networking standards (e.g. MARC, Z39.50)
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience. Minimum $40K.
TERMS & BENEFITS: Twelve month appointment; sick leave and annual leave @
1.25 days each per month; health insurance, major medical of Health
Maintenance Organization. Social Security coverage. TIAA/CREF or New York
State Teachers Retirement available (employee contribution rate = 3%).
