I'd like to call your attention to a very interesting paper by Ken Frazier
(The Librarians' Dilemma: Contemplating the Costs of the "Big Deal" ) in the
March issue of D-Lib Magazine:
http://www.dlib.org/dlib/march01/frazier/03frazier.html
The paper discusses the "Big Deal", which Ken Frazier describes as "an
online aggregation of journals that publishers offer as a one-price, one
size fits all package." Ken Frazier's advice?? "Academic library directors
should not sign on to the Big Deal or any comprehensive licensing agreements
with commercial publishers."
A very provocative piece......
Thanks to Alison Buckholtz of ARL for pointing out this paper on the
liblicense-l list!
