NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES
Associate Director, Collection Management, Organization and Preservation
The NCSU Libraries is seeking an Associate Director for Collection
Management, Organization, and Preservation who is mission and vision
centered. This position offers outstanding opportunities for an
individual with the right combination of outlook, scope, and experience.
The associate director leads a division comprising three critical
library programs--collections, technical services, and
preservation--with a staff of 23 librarians and 58 support staff and a
materials budget of approximately $8,000,000. These programs support a
client-oriented library serving a technologically sophisticated
community with high expectations for scholarly resources and services.
As a member of a strong management team under the leadership of the
Director of Libraries, the assistant director enjoys the collaboration
of colleagues working closely together on planning, policy, and budget
matters of library-wide impact. Qualifications Required:
ALA-accredited MLS; significant and appropriate experience with
increasingly responsible assignments. A proven leader, with
demonstrated management experience and administrative abilities.
Knowledge of scholarly communication patterns, of information technology
trends and applications, and of technical services principles. Sound
knowledge of collection management principles and trends. Ability to
work effectively with staff, colleagues, faculty and students; ability
to encourage and work within a team environment. Demonstrated
excellence in written, oral and personal communication. Strong
analytical skills, with a broadly conceptual outlook and a flexible
approach to problem solving and management of change. Preferred:
Relevant academic research library experience. Experience in collection
management. Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience,
minimum $80,000.
Assistant Director, Scholarly Communication and External Relations
The NCSU Libraries is seeking an Assistant Director for Scholarly
Communication and External Relations who is mission and vision centered.
The assistant director leads the Scholarly Communication Center, whose
staff includes a copyright attorney, in its mission to promote creation
and open dissemination of scholarly publications through legal guidance,
outreach, and advocacy. The assistant director is responsible, with
support of Director of Publications, for an award-winning public
relations and publications program that seeks to communicate information
about the Libraries' ambitious agenda and achievements. As a member of
a strong management team under the leadership of the Director of
Libraries, the assistant director enjoys the collaboration of colleagues
on planning, policy and budget matters of library-wide impact.
Qualifications Required: ALA-accredited MLS.; understanding of issues
involved in current scholarly communication environment, including
copyright law and fair use in higher education; understanding of the
value of communications and a public information program to advance the
mission of an organization; experience with management of all elements
of a publication program; demonstrated excellence in editing and in oral
and written communications; excellent organizational skills; experience
with media practice. Preferred: Experience with scholarly publication
process, including personal record of scholarly publication; experience
with survey research. Salary: competitive and commensurate with
experience, minimum $75,000.

NC LIVE (North Carolina LIbraries for Virtual Education)
Systems Librarian (Two positions available)
NC LIVE, a public-private partnership among 200 North Carolina
Libraries, seeks two Systems Librarians to advance its vision of each
library serving as a gateway to a rich array of library and electronic
resources for the people of North Carolina. The Systems Librarians will
support the NC LIVE help desk, acting as liaison between staff of
affiliated libraries (public libraries, community colleges, colleges and
universities) and technical staff to explore and develop service
enhancements, communicate needs, resolve problems. They will assess
scalability and resource requirements, assist migration of projects
through implementation, and prepare documentation, communications and
training for affiliated libraries.
Required: ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree.
Operational experience with library systems. Skills in client/server
technology, current Web authoring and applications. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently
and in a team environment. Preferred: Relevant professional experience
at a help desk. Experience in academic or public libraries. Familiarity
with relevant technical standards, hardware and software. Training
skills.
