EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
LIBRARY & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATION
The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the
American Library Association (ALA), is seeking an Executive Director. LITA
is concerned with the planning, development, design, application and
integration of technologies within the library and information environment;
with the impact of emerging technologies on library and information service;
and, with the effect of technologies on people.
This senior management position has overall responsibility for the
operational and fiscal management (revenue-based budget) of LITA, under the
general supervision of the Senior Associate Executive Director, ALA, and a
rotating, elected, twelve-member Board of Directors. The LITA Executive
Director supervises a staff of three; supports and facilitates the work of
approximately 25 LITA committees and 25 interest groups by providing
counsel, advice, direction and staff support for their ideas and plans.
Entrepreneurial duties include establishing future partnerships and
coalitions to promote technological change; overseeing a growing publishing
program; developing and managing conferences and institutes. The LITA
executive Directors advocates for LITA within ALA.
As a division director, this position also serves as an ALA program
director; is responsible for advising on ALA plans and preparing
recommendations on priorities, programs and other issues; meets regularly
with other ALA managers; and communicates, cooperates and coordinates LITA
activities with those of other ALA units. The LITA Executive Director is a
member of the Member Programs and Services Team and reports to the Senior
Associate Executive Director, ALA; directly supervises a staff of three;
and, participates with other senior staff in the overall management of the
Association.
Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-recognized program in LIS, or
equivalent education and experience as well as demonstrated knowledge of
information technologies. Strongly preferred: familiarity with a nonprofit
and/or association environment.
Salary range: Starting salary negotiable from $65,000, depending on
experience and qualifications. ALA has an excellent medical/dental package,
a retirement annuity with TIAA-CRED and paid vacation.
