Position: Two Electronic Access Reference Positions
Environment: Serving 20,000 students, the University of Delaware has an
endowment of almost $1 billion, an award-winning technology network, and
a beautiful suburban campus located an hour from Philadelphia and two
hours from New York and Washington D.C. The Library makes accessible a
broad range of electronic resources including Web of Science,
ScienceDirect, SciFinder Scholar, JSTOR, as well as over 170 other
databases and over 7,000 full text electronic journals and newspapers.
The Library also provides electronic reserve, electronic reference
service, and an innovative new service called ArticleExpress, which
links Web of Science and various Silver Platter databases directly to
online full text articles from electronic journals and full text
databases. Library collections include 2.4 million volumes, 3.1 million
microforms, and over 11,000 videos, films and DVDs. Technology
available to users in the Library includes 200 current public access
workstations and 75 laptop connections, digital microform scanner, GIS
workstation, multimedia workstations, 33 media/video carrels, a viewing
room, electronic teaching classroom, lecture room with new digital media
projection system, email express stations and a microcomputing site.
The Library is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the
Center for Research Libraries, CIRLA, and PALINET. More information

Description: The Library seeks two enthusiastic, user-oriented
electronic access reference librarians to assist users with electronic
databases, and web resources; provide both general and subject specific
reference service and user education;
participate in collection development; work with faculty in instruction
and WebCT electronic library content; develop and maintain web pages;
and provide information services and instruction. Some evening and
weekend work required. Librarians new to the profession eager to
participate in an innovative technological environment are encouraged to
apply. Positions report to the Head, Reference Department. Each
position responsible for several related disciplines for collection
development, faculty liaison, user education, and specialized
reference. Preference for candidates with academic background or
experience in at least one discipline included for each position.
POSITION #1: Physics, mathematics, computer science
POSITION #2: Public administration, political science, international
relations, urban affairs and public policy
Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS required. Academic background or
experience required in at least one of the discipline for the position
desired. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Instructional experience and knowledge and/or experience with electronic
databases, journals and other online resources considered very
desirable. Strong commitment to service and an eagerness to help others
with electronic and print resources is required.
Salary: Expect to hire at the rank of Assistant Librarian, $34,000.
Benefits: Vacation of 22 working days. Liberal sick leave. General
flexible benefits program. TIAA-CREF or Fidelity retirement with 11% of
salary contributed by the University. Tuition remission/course fee
waiver for employee, spouse and dependents.
