University of Wisconsin – Whitewater
Andersen Library
Position: Coordinator of Library Technical Processing
Academic Staff, Annual Renewable Appointment
Full-time, 12 months appointment
Starting Date: Immediately
Responsibilities:
1. Plan, coordinate and manage the overall operation of the Technical
Processing Unit:
· Supervision of the unit personnel (8 FTE staff plus student
assistants)
· Ordering, receiving, cataloging, processing, binding and
preservation of all library materials
2. Serve as a member of the Library Team Leaders and play a
leadership role in policy development and in making operational
recommendations to the Director of Library
Services.
3. Assist the Director in developing and implementing short-term and
long-term operational goals and objectives.
4. Perform original and complex copy cataloging in all formats.
5. Perform authority work.
6. Maintains an awareness and understanding of national cataloging
standards and cooperative endeavors, and supports their application in the
local environment.
7. Implements appropriate new technology and practices to improve
quality and efficiency of workflow.
Salary: Ranking will be based on candidate’s qualifications and experience,
salary range $38,882-$47,000.
Qualifications:
Required:
· MLS from an ALA accredited institution.
· Three years of successful, progressively responsible professional
experience in technical processing including at least one year of
administrative or supervisory
experience.
· Demonstrated experience in cataloging.
· Demonstrated experience in using AACR2, LCSH & LC classification,
LC rule interpretations, MARC formats, and the principles of authority
control.
· Knowledge of technical services activities and trends.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Experience in integrated library automation systems (preferably
Voyager) and bibliographic utilities.
· Hands-on experience in the utilization of current technology for
technical processing.
Preferred:
· Second advanced degree in an academic discipline.
