there is the MIME program at Indiana University which grew out of the
School of Library and Information Science and currently operates out of
the Department of Telecommunications at Indiana University. Last year MIME
was ranked as one of the top 10 newMedia programs in North America. We are
definitely an information based program but with a twist; we focus on
interactive entertainment, games and storytelling.
If it ain't fun we ain't doin' it.
MIME grads don't so much look for work as turn down offers and attempt,
often unsuccessfully to graduate. Starting salaries seem to start around
$65,000 and very recent graduates have gone to Universal Studios & Sony
Online in LA, ATT & Jones Int. in the Denver area, Thomson/Thomson &
Sapien in the Boston area and Rumpus.com & Columbia in NY.
MIME isn't for everyone but if you suffer from a creative gene which often
gets you in trouble; if you have some combination of abilities in art,
music, storytelling, marketing and/or programming; you can't help
downloading the latest eye-candy making tool; you can answer 'yes' to the
question: Have you stood in line at Kmart praying for a PS2 from Santa;
and/or you actually know what 'Samba De Amiga' is and your arms are sore
... then you are a Mimester by birth.
There is no newMedia/information sci program in the world more flexible
than MIME. We don't tell you what to do; we ask you what you want to do
and what you want to become and then we help you reach your goal. If you
have the talent we can teach you the technology.
Mime is always on the look out for fun, talented people. Mimesters are
from China, Korea, Germany, Israel, Venezuela, Thailand, Italy and the US.
