Head of Systems
The North Carolina State University Libraries is an acknowledged leader
among research libraries in the application of emerging information
technologies to the delivery of library services and collections. The
Libraries’ Information Technology division (Digital Library Initiatives
Department, Systems Department, and NC LIVE) is a linchpin in the
realization of the Libraries’ vision of responding in new ways to the
information needs of researchers, teachers, and learners in the digital
environment. We are seeking a Head of Systems whose management ability,
technical expertise, and collaborative style will provide leadership for
state-of-the-art services that give our users information and assistance
when and where they need it, as conveniently as possible.
Responsibilities
Leads a service-oriented program that supports and extends system
technologies to the users of the NCSU Libraries. Supports delivery of
information technology that meets the needs of the diverse clientele of
a research university. Is responsible for planning, management, and
administration of the operations and personnel of the department (5
librarians, 9 technical and support staff). Contributes to collaborative
efforts within the Libraries, on the campus, and in external settings.
Qualifications
Required: Successful management and supervisory experience that
demonstrates leadership, planning, budget, and analytical skills. Strong
commitment to providing high quality technical support for users and
staff. Technical expertise to lead the development of innovative
information technology services. Management and operation of integrated
library management software. Excellent interpersonal skills and the
ability to communicate knowledgeably and personably both orally and in
writing. Preferred: Experience with systems in a comparable library
setting. Broad-based technical background
Librarians have academic status without tenure or rank. Benefits
include: 26 days vacation, 12 days sick leave; health insurance
(comprehensive major medical or HMO); and state, TIAA/CREF or other
retirement options. Additional and optional dental, life, disability,
deferred compensation, and legal plans are available. Relocation
allowance.
Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience, minimum $60,000
