I also turn off the lights in my office if I am going to be gone an hour or more. According to our physical plant personnel, this does impact the utility bill of the university. We are not billed separately, but they can run some checks to see how our building is doing. We turn off other computers such as in the lab just to recycle the memory, seems to help with problems.
