PRACTICAL TECHNIQUES - A ONE DAY WORKSHOP

WHY ATTEND?
This workshop is designed specifically for public library managers,
trustees, governing board members and other library leaders
who want to:
o Understand the impact of the library's network services on the
community. For example, does the community value network services, why is
the community using the library's network services and what for?
o Understand the impact of the library's network services on the library
itself. For example, what should the funding relationship be between
traditional services and newer network services? How do you know that the
library's network services have improved over last year?
o Obtain credit and sustained funding from key community stakeholders for
the library's network services particularly when traditional library
services are stagnant or in decline.
The key to meeting these needs is to develop and use measures of your
public library's network services. This workshop will give you practical
advice on how to develop and use new measures of network services
successfully in your library.
TOPICS COVERED
Topics discussed at the workshop will include:
o The importance of network measures and how to incorporate and use them
with traditional library statistics
o Issues to consider when choosing network measures for your library
o Examples of model network statistics and performance measures
o Managing data collection including examples of successful techniques
from the field
o Using vendor based data to produce effective network measures
o Interpreting and reporting network measures
o Presenting and positioning your library with network measure data in
your local political environment.
The workshop will provide an informal setting where participants can share
ideas and information and obtain advice from the workshop speakers.
