The campus as well as the library are in the process of beginning to provide wireless service in many areas including some of the libraries. The one important hurdle for us is authentication of users. We will require wireless users to login before they can access the network. This is much like the login we require when users dialin. To this end, faculty, staff and students register with the campus and receive an ID and a password. If they have compatible equipment they will be able to gain access in any of the public wireless service areas.

I am interested in services academic libraries are providing that are
tailored to or driven by wireless users and laptop users as well. I do not
mean the lending of laptops with wireless cards. I am talking about
students with laptops or other wireless devices already. Please reply to
the list so as to facilitate discussion of this topic. I have posted this
query on a couple of other lists without much real response of any
substance.
