multimedia computing facilities for students

Tilburg University Library is currently doing a feasibility
study for a new layout of the library. At the moment, computing
facilities for students, about 450 pc's, are mixed with
collections and another 450 seats without computing equipment.
This causes, together with the intensive use which is made
of the library, a considerable amount of noise.
Two other developments in the near future are the introduction
of multimedia computers and a growing need for space where
students can work in groups. (Paradoxically, the introduction
of digital learning environments seems to increase the need
for physical encounters, since it also often introduces more
active learning styles.)
To accomodate for these three factors - noise, multimedia
and group work - we are currently investigating a new lay
out for the library building in which computing facilities
will be concentrated on one floor of approx. 2800 sqm meters.
Working rooms for library staff on this floor are intended
to be turned into group working facilities. (Yep, books and
staff out, computers and students in ... no, actually staff
will be relocated and our access to electronic sources like
JSTOR allows for some room in disposing of print material.)
My question to the list is: are you aware of any other
universities (US, UK, Europe) which are currently undertaking
similar efforts to accomodate multimedia and group work
in considerable numbers ? Within or outside the library.
If so, I would be very happy if you'd let me know, preferably
with URLs and phone / email addresses of persons to contact.
With sufficient response, I will of course summarise for the
