We restrict our fourteen public computer stations to Internet access.
There are an additional six computers that have our online catalog
only. Most of the Internet access ones also have the catalog, but
they are rarely used for that.
In our separate Computer Lab we have nine stations (a mix of Mac
and PC) with a large variety of applications: Microsoft Office, Word
Perfect, Appleworks, Quark, Pagemaker, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Acrobat Reader is also installed on all of the public access machines
as are jPeg View, Quick Time player and plug in, Picture viewer,
iMovie and Real player (& plug in). In the lab we also have a
scanner( which does print or pictures) and are about to introduce a
film scanner in the next week or so.
We have a b&w HP printer ( 4000 series) and just added a Tektronics
Phaser 780 color printer. Our Board has been very supportive of our
efforts to provide the
newest technology to our public.
We are a medium sized public library, just north of Syracuse, NY.
The computer lab was initiated under a grant ( thanks to a state
legislator)about ten years ago.
