Professional Positions for New Librarians
The NCSU Libraries Fellows program offers a unique opportunity to a
select group of M.L.S. graduates who have received degrees August 2000
or later. Fellows will join a research library that has just received
the first ever ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, in
recognition of its creativity and innovation in meeting the needs of the
academic community. The NCSU Libraries is particularly well known for
its digital library programs, its technological advances, and its
commitment to defining the future of librarianship.
The NCSU Libraries offers Fellows the opportunity for rapid professional
growth through assignment to an innovative project combined with
experience and mentoring in a department. Fellows are appointed to the
rank of librarian for a two-year term.

Qualifications
The Libraries seeks a diverse pool of applicants with ALA-accredited MLS
degrees, received August 2000 or later. Required: demonstrated academic
achievement; demonstrated potential to develop expertise in information
technology, digital library initiatives, and/or science librarianship.
Evidence of leadership potential; excellent interpersonal skills
including ability to work in a highly interactive team environment;
ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally
and in writing; understanding of the educational mission of a research
university. Internship or practicum in research-oriented environment is
desirable.
The University and the Libraries
As one of the nation's outstanding land-grant universities, NC State
offers degrees through the Colleges of Engineering, Agriculture and Life
Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Humanities and Social
Sciences, Management, Education and Psychology, Veterinary Medicine,
Forest Resources, Textiles, and the School of Design. As the largest
academic institution in the state, NC State enrolls 28,000 students and
offers doctoral degrees in 54 fields of study. The university ranks
seventh nationally in research support from private industry and ninth
in the number of patents awarded.
The library system consists of a central library and branch libraries
for design, natural resources, textiles, and veterinary medicine, and
maintains an affiliation with a separately administered learning
resources library and African-American Cultural Center reading room.
With a staff of 320 FTE, the Libraries has over 2.7 million volumes in
its collection, acquires more than 35,000 print and electronic serials,
and has a total annual budget of nearly $20 million, with over $7
million allocated to collections.
The NCSU Libraries is a founding member of SOLINET and a member of the
Association of Research Libraries, the Digital Library Federation, and
the Center for Research Libraries. Duke University, the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University and NC
State form the Triangle Research Libraries Network (TRLN), with combined
resources approaching 12 million volumes, and collections budgets
totaling more than $22 million.

SALARY: $38,000 plus full benefits package. Moving stipend.
