Head, Research and Information Services Department
Between the mountains of the Blue Ridge and the shores of the Outer

Libraries has been recognized as the first recipient of the Association
of College and Research Libraries’ Excellence in Academic Libraries

The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position
of Head, Research and Information Services Department, to lead reference
services in a library committed to providing ready access to information
unconstrained by time or location
Responsibilities
Responsible for the administration of the department (18 librarians, 7
support staff, and 4 graduate assistants) including planning, budget,
policy, and personnel matters. Plans and implements a comprehensive
service program supporting research, teaching, and extension in all
disciplines, with an emphasis on science and engineering. Facilitates
partnerships between faculty members and subject specialist librarians
that focus on curriculum-integrated information skills instruction and
availability of Web-based guides and supplementary research materials.
Uses business model techniques to evaluate and report on existing and
prospective services; trains staff to apply these techniques and to
develop skills that prepare them for management roles in the library
organization. Participates in library planning and policy-making, and
serves on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams, including
Management Council and Public Services Group. Reports to Associate
Director for Public Services.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS. Substantial professional experience,
including supervisory experience. Excellent interpersonal skills;
ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, orally
and in writing, with clients and colleagues. Familiarity with issues
and trends in reference services, and with reference sources and
practices. Knowledge of current and emerging information technologies.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative programs and
services. Understanding of the educational mission of a research
university and the changing learning environment. Ability to work
collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to manage multiple
projects and priorities effectively. Preferred: Significant experience
as a reference librarian; academic or research library experience.

Librarian for interlibrary and document delivery services
The NCSU Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position
of Librarian for Interlibrary and Document Delivery Services to develop,
manage, and improve an array of on campus and off-campus delivery
services of physical and digital materials.
Responsibilities
Oversees operations of the Interlibrary and Document Delivery Services
unit of the Access and Delivery Services department with 5 support
staff, and 4 FTE student assistants. Leads the library in providing
innovative customer-focused, cost-effective delivery services.
Communicates and collaborates with branch library staff regarding
delivery issues. Establishes and maintains performance measures and
statistics for delivery service activities; evaluates and revises
delivery services workflows and search methodologies. Monitors, tests,
and implements new technologies.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum 3 years relevant professional
experience. Experience in bibliographic searching and verification.
Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, and a strong
client-centered orientation. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability
to communicate clearly, knowledgeably, and personably, both orally and
in writing.
Preferred: 3 years relevant post-MLS experience; supervisory
experience. Demonstrated analytical and statistical skills.
