Greetings all,
I am part of the Virtual Services Committee for the Buffalo & Erie County
Public Library System. As part of assessing technological changes, we are
also looking at human resources. Down the line, I'd imagine there will need
to be new positions to cover such facets as e-reference, intranet, web
development, digitization projects, troubleshooting, etc. We already have a
Network Support department which keeps us wired and functioning, but a new
department within our Central Library may also be inevitable. Would anybody
be willing to share their experiences that may be useful to our 52-branch
system which serves nearly 1,000,000 people? Details about your hierarchy
regarding a digital or virtual services department, or whatever you may call
it, as well as job descriptions or vacancy postings -- any of these tips
would be extremely helpful for us in piecing together our organization. By
the way, does anyone officially use the term "cybrarian"?
So far I have seen this web site:
http://www.liblink.co.uk/management/careers.html
It lists jobs mostly for the UK but there are American postings too, none of
which appeared to be for digital or virtual librarians. We will also be
looking at LJ and AL for listing of positions too.
You may contact me with tips or descriptions via e-mail, fax or snail mail.
Thank you all in advance.
