Colleagues, please join the OCLC Institute at ALA Annual 2000 in Chicago for
an informational sharing session to introduce our web-based learning module
"How to catalog Internet resources." This is the first offering in the OCLC
Institute's Online Library Learning series that was developed jointly with
Amigos Library Services, NELINET, and SOLINET and OCLC Institute consultant
Steve Miller of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Golda Meir Library.
Key features:
* This educational module is OCLC product/service independent
* Available for OCLC members and non-members
* Access via an Internet browser and connection (no downloads
required!)
* Nearly 16 hours of self-paced online learning
* 28 individual interactive lessons that include immediate feedback.
Each lesson includes objectives, examples and quizzes
* Appropriate skill level from library school students to seasoned
cataloging professionals
* Integrated into each lesson are links to authoritative cataloging
online references
* Content based on AACR2 and MARC 21 rules and guidelines
* OCLC's Jay Weitz reviewed content for its accuracy
* Globally accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
During the ALA session, which will be co-presented by two of the development
team members, Sandy Colby, MLIS, OCLC Institute, and Steve Miller, MLIS,
Uiversity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, attendees will see a demonstration of one
of the interactive lessons, and an online guided tour that graphically
illustrates similarities and differences between MARC records for Internet
and print resources. A question and answer session will follow.
