Binghamton University Libraries, State University of New York, seek to
fill a librarian faculty position for the Glenn G. Bartle Library.
Bartle Library houses materials in the social sciences, arts,
humanities, management, mathematics, computer science, education and
human development.
Electronic Resources Access Librarian
Position is primarily responsible for coordinating and providing
bibliographic access, authority control, and database maintenance for
in-house and external electronic resources. The incumbent will also
participate in the development and maintenance of web applications
associated with the online catalog, and will supervise the work of the
Senior Bibliographic Assistant responsible for cataloging networked and
electronic resources. Duties also include coordinating current
cataloging and procedures; creating original MARC cataloging records and
non-MARC metadata records for electronic resources; and participating in
the licensing of electronic products. Requirements: ALA-accredited
MLS. Knowledge of or recent cataloging experience in an academic
library; an interest in or experience with providing access to
electronic and web resources; strong oral and written communication
skills; aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail;
demonstrated problem-solving skills; flexibility; ability to work
independently and prioritize work to ensure that departmental and
library goals are realized; ability to work effectively in a
production-oriented environment; working knowledge of AACR2, LC subject
headings and classification and USMARC formats; evidence of professional
growth, service activities, and contribution to the library profession
to meet faculty criteria for promotion and tenure; a commitment to
providing a high level of support service. Preferred: Advanced degree
or graduate course work in a subject discipline; electronic resources
and/or serials cataloging experience in an academic or research library
within the last five years; working knowledge of SGML, HTML, and TEI
standards; experience with OCLC and/or RLIN.
Position reports to the Head of Cataloging Services. Appointment will
be at Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian rank, depending on
qualifications and experience. Minimum starting salary $30,000,
commensurate with qualifications, plus excellent fringe benefits
including TIAA/CREF.
