>Responsibilities:  Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for
Bibliographic and Access Services, the department head provides leadership
and management for services and staff in copy and original cataloging, and
database maintenance.  This position provides direction for four librarians
and approximately 17 support staff responsible for cataloging library
resources, providing links from the catalog to Web resources, maintaining
the online catalog, and labeling materials for the shelf.  Sets goals,
plans, organizes, and monitors departmental activities; and addresses
cross-departmental issues in a collegial, team-oriented environment.
Implements appropriate new technology and practices to improve quality and
efficiency of workflow.  Maintains an awareness and understanding of
national cataloging standards and cooperative endeavors, and supports their
application in the local environment.  Promotes the use of the latest
technologies, concepts, and practices that support the organization of and
access to electronic information, including the use of metadata.

>Qualifications:  Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school.
Successful supervisory experience.  Knowledge of AACR2, LC classification,
LC subject headings, MARC formats, the major bibliographic utilities, and
evolving metadata standards.  Strong commitment to serving library users.
Excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal, written and oral
communication skills.  Ability to work cooperatively in a collaborative and
continuously changing environment. Experience and demonstrated interest in
new approaches for creating access to electronic information sources is
strongly preferred

>Salary:  $50,000.  Excellent benefits package, including choice of health
coverage; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred
annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hrs/week;
no state or local income tax.

>Library Information:  The Libraries use the Innovative Interfaces
integrated library system.  The Libraries are a member of the Association
of Research Libraries, hold about 2 million volumes, and have a current
materials budget of $5 million.  Total staff includes 52 professionals and
