Position:       Instruction and Social Sciences Librarian

        Mary Washington College seeks an experienced, dynamic librarian to work as a member of its 3-person instructional team.  The candidate will serve as liaison to academic departments in the social sciences and will report to the Director of the Library.  Responsibilities include outreach, library instruction, collection development, and reference consultation.  The position also includes reference desk service with occasional weekend and evening hours.  The successful candidate will assist in the development and implementation of an information literacy initiative and other Web-based library services.  Each finalist invited for an interview will give a presentation to the library staff.

Qualifications:

        Required:  ALA-accredited MLS.  Extensive professional reference and instruction experience in an academic library, including recent experience with electronic resources and database searching.  Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining Web pages in support of library services.  Knowledge of computer software applications in a networked environment.  Demonstrated ability in planning, designing, and implementing new library services, projects, and procedures.  Excellent written and communication skills, effective interpersonal and teaching skills, and interest in working in a team-managed setting.  Preferred: Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education.  Experience or academic background in the social sciences.  Record of ongoing professional activities and participation.

        Mary Washington College is a state-supported liberal arts college with an enrollment of 3,800 students.  The College is located in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia, 50 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 50 miles north of Richmond, Virginia. Salary/Benefits:

        $39,000 minimum salary; 12-month administrative faculty appointment; state government benefit package; choice of retirement plan including TIAA/CREF; medical benefits; Cash Match; professional development support; 15 vacation days in addition to state holidays.
