DEAN OF LIBRARY SERVICES

The University of Nebraska at Omaha, a comprehensive metropolitan
university, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of
Library Services.  The Dean of Library Services reports to the Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs and serves on the Chancellor's Council and
the Dean's Forum.  The University Library has a staff of 15 faculty, 38
staff, and 50 student assistants.  The Learning Center also reports to the
Dean.  The university has a strong commitment to achieving diversity among
faculty and staff.  We are particularly interested in receiving applications
from members of under-represented groups and strongly encourage women and
persons of color to apply for this position.

The University Library has an operating budget of $4 million of which $1.8
million is allocated for acquisitions.  Its collections number over 800,000
volumes, and include extensive government documents and microforms
collections.  There are more than 3,000 current periodical subscriptions and
a diverse array of electronic databases.  The library has recently embraced
an expanded instructional mission and campus-wide leadership in the
application of instructional technology. Additional information can be found

As chief administrative officer of the library, the dean has overall
responsibility for library operations.  The dean is engaged, both within and
beyond the library, in community outreach and cooperation, fund-raising, and
strategic planning.  A building renovation and expansion is in the planning
stages.

Preferred Qualifications:
An MLS from an ALA-accredited program and an additional advanced degree.
Substantial administrative experience in an academic library with increasing
levels of management responsibility.
Creative leadership in integrating information competencies and learning
resources into the curriculum.  A collegial leadership style, a positive
service orientation, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
