Position:  Coordinator, Preservation Operations

Environment:  The University of Delaware's attractive main campus is
located in a suburban community of 30,000 and is within easy reach of
the cultural resources of Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and
Washington. The University of  Delaware  Library is comprised of the
Morris Library and four branch libraries. The collections include over
2.4 million volumes and a strong collection of electronic resources
networked to the University and remotely accessible to authorized
off-campus users. The University of  Delaware  is  a member of the
Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries,
PALINET, the Chesapeake Information and Research Library Alliance
(CIRLA), and the Coalition for Networked Information. More information

Description:  Coordinates the preservation program for the collections
of the Morris Library, the main library of the University of Delaware,
and 4 branch libraries.  Duties include: supervises Conservation,
Bindery Preparation, and Shelf Preparation (4 full-time staff members
plus student assistants); works with other library units to establish
and maintain effective work flow, quality, and standards, and to
streamline procedures for identifying, evaluating, and routing materials
for preservation treatment; conducts staff training and appropriate user
education regarding  preservation issues; coordinates disaster
preparedness and response; establishes and maintains effective relations
with service suppliers and vendors; represents the Library in national
and regional preservation forums.  Reports to Assistant Director for
Library Collections.

Qualifications:  ALA accredited MLS.  Strong oral and written
communication skills.  Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with library staff at all levels.  Working
knowledge of basic and advanced library materials preservation
techniques, of assessing and sorting materials for preservation
treatment, and of the practice of preservation.

Salary:  Salary dependent upon experience; expect to fill at the
Assistant Librarian level.  Minimum $34,000.

Benefits:  Vacation of 22 working days. Liberal sick leave. Generous
flexible benefits program.  TIAA-CREF or Fidelity retirement with 11% of
salary contributed by the University.  Tuition remission for dependents
and course fee waiver for employee.
