POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
COPY CATALOGING MANAGER

Responsibilities:  The Copy Cataloging Manager's primary responsibility is
to manage the copy  cataloging unit within the Acquisitions Department.
The Unit consists of seven support staff and three student assistants.  The
copy cataloging unit's responsibilities include pre-order searching, copy
cataloging of monographs including Texas State and U.S. Government
Documents, and OCLC input.  The Copy Cataloging Manager coordinates OCLC
services, activities and training throughout the Libraries.  This position
is responsible for customizing workstations for effective use of OCLC and
the Innovative System's cataloging software.   This position will
participate in planning, setting goals and objectives, identifying and
resolving problems, and assessing the productivity of staff and operations
within the unit.

Qualifications:  Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and
experience in cataloging operations required. Knowledge of MARC formats,
LCSH, LC classification, AACR2, and OCLC required.  Ability to interact
effectively with all levels of staff.  Excellent oral and written
communication skills.  Supervisory experience and knowledge of the
Innovative system preferred.

Salary: $37,000. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement
programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available;
release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income
tax.

Library Information:  The Libraries are a member of the Association of
Research  libraries, hold about 2 million volumes, with a current materials
budget of $4.2 million. Total staff includes 46 professionals and 170
