COORDINATOR, SCIENCE LIBRARY
Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to administer a brand new
Science Library with a new staff and ample resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Science Library Coordinator provides leadership
and administration and ensures the effectiveness of the services and
operations of the Science Library and the Library Storage Facility. The
Coordinator plans, designs, implements and evaluates electronic initiatives
in cooperation with library colleagues and works in collaboration with a
team-centered approach to problem-solving. As a member of the Library
Policy Group, the Coordinator shares responsibility for developing and
implementing the mission, goals and broad policy directions of Albany's
University Libraries and coordinating initiatives with Assistant Directors
and library managers. The Coordinator provides leadership in the
dynamic process of change to build digital library services in a
networked research environment. Supervises a staff of 6 library
faculty and 6 support staff. Reports to the Dean & Director of Libraries.
Research, publication and service to the Libraries, University and
profession are expected to satisfy criteria for continuing appointment
and promotion.
The Science Library Coordinator provides information and research
strategy consultation for library users; serves as one of a team of
network navigators and consultants on scientific electronic resources;
works with subject consultants, faculty and students in the
development of instructional materials and services. The Coordinator
evaluates appropriate software interfaces for access tools and
participates in evening and weekend service assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Graduate degree in librarianship from an
ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Demonstrated successful
experience in exercising leadership and management responsibilities in
research libraries; broad knowledge of and proven expertise in public
services, particularly in an electronic environment; excellent
communication skills; demonstrated analytical, interpersonal and
supervisory skills; demonstrated ability to manage change. Desired:
undergraduate degree in one of the science disciplines served by the
library (biology, geology, etc.); experience working in a science
research library and with information technologies.
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
Salary minimum: Associate Librarian, $55,000.
TERMS & BENEFITS: Twelve month appointment; sick leave and
annual leave @ 1.25 days each per month; health insurance, major
medical or Health Maintenance Organization. Social Security
coverage. TIAA/CREF or New York State Teachers Retirement
available (employee contribution rate = 3%).
