Reporting to Head, Public Services, is responsible for operation and
closing of Main Campus Library during evening and Saturday hours, inc=
luding
scheduling and supervising part-time support staff; participates in g=
eneral
reference service, library instruction, and collection development; a=
ssists
patrons in the use of OPAC, CD-ROM=92s, electronic services, and
Internet/WWW; develops instructional publications in various formats.=
May
supervise computer lab. May be assigned as needed to other divisions =
of
Hunter College Libraries. Qualifications: Required: Instructor: M.=
L.S.,
or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school. Assistant
Professor: M.L.S., or its equivalent from an ALA-accredited library
school, and an additional Master=92s degree or Doctorate. Highly des=
irable:
Minimum two years experience in library public services, with some
supervisory experience preferable; academic library reference, electr=
onic
resources and bibliographic instruction skills; excellent communicati=
on and
interpersonal skills; ability to meet requirements for promotion/tenu=
re.
Salary: Instructor: $30,585 - $45,516; Assistant Professor: $32,062-
$53,779, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Liberal fri=

benefits. 35-hour, 5-day work week (up to 4 evenings until closing an=
d
Saturdays each week during academic year).
Hunter College, the second oldest college in The City University of N=
ew
York, is a coeducational, fully accredited college, with a large and
diverse faculty in the liberal arts and sciences and in several
professional schools. Hunter=92s total enrollment is approximately 1=
9,000
students. Of these, about 8,000 are full-time undergraduate, an addi=
tional
7,000 are part-time students, and over 4,000 are graduate students st=
udying
in arts and sciences, teacher education and professional programs at=
the
Schools of Arts and Sciences, Education, Social Work, and Health Pro=

With a professional staff of 24 librarians, Hunter College Library co=

approximately 840,000 volumes, 2,300 current periodical titles, and a
nonprint collection of discs, tapes, scores, CD-ROMs, and microforms.=

library resources of Hunter College are available through CUNY+, an
automated library system, which provides access to all CUNY library
collections.

Subject: Position Announcement - Head, Reference and Instruction Librarian
Gettysburg College is a highly selective liberal arts college located
ninety minutes from the Baltimore/Washington area. Established in 1832,
the College has a rich history, and is located on a 220-acre campus with an
enrollment of approximately 2,200 students.
(SEARCH EXTENDED) Head, Reference and Instruction Librarian
(Musselman Library) - Gettysburg College seeks an experienced reference
librarian to manage the Reference and Instruction Department. Helps shape
and guide proactive reference and research services in a highly electronic
environment. Oversees department personnel management including hiring,
training, and evaluation. Supervises and evaluates 3 librarians.
Coordinates department goals and plans new initiatives. Reference desk
coverage, including one evening per week, while classes are in session.
Participates in bibliographic instruction and collection development.
Coordinates reference collection development. Works closely with the Access
Services Librarian to develop strong and visible public services program.
This is a new position and reports to the Director of Library Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS degree; proven leadership
record with substantial professional experience in an academic library,
preferably in a liberal arts setting; knowledge of traditional and
electronic reference services and sources; supervisory and administrative
experience; ability to coordinate programs and services; understanding of
scholarly communication patterns and needs of a scholarly clientele;
desire to play a visible role in the academic community; extensive
knowledge of new technologies and their applications in enhancing user
services; strong commitment to providing quality service; ability to work
flexibly and creatively in a demanding environment; and excellent
communication skills. Highly desired: Five years experience as a reference
librarian; collection development experience; second master=s degree;
foreign language.
