PROFESSIONAL STAFF POSITION: LIBRARIAN II or III (HEAD OF PUBLIC
SERVICES)

QUALIFICATIONS:
1) An MLS from an ALA-accredited library school with course work in
information technology;
2.) Expertise in information resource instruction, in reference work,
and an inter-library loan system;
3.) Familiarity with automated library systems, preferably the Dynix
automated system, with HTML coding and with the digital library conce=
pt;
4.) Prior supervisory experience in an academic library;
5.) This position also requires a highly motivated individual with th=
e
ability to work with people of diverse educational and cultural
backgrounds.
ASSIGNMENT:
The successful candidate will direct the activities of the Public
Services Area with specific emphasis on providing information resourc=
e
instruction to patrons on the St. Thomas campus and on coordinating s=
uch
instruction on both campuses. The appointee will coordinate the
provision of reference services, including providing training in
available information resources to all staff responsible for the
provision of such services, and will serve as the lead person in the
provision of reference assistance. Will provide general direction to =
and
oversee Circulation Services, and the provision of inter-library loan
service. Will schedule the part-time staff with respect to Circulatio=
n
and Reference Services. Will contribute to the Libraries Web Page wit=
h
specific responsibility for ensuring that information about circulati=
on
and reference services and the Public Services area is continually
updated on the web page; and perform other related duties as assigned=
.
COMPENSATION AND FRINGE BENEFITS:
The salary for this professional staff position is commensurate with
experience. Hiring Range: $34,170-42,659. Benefits include the
liberal TIAA-CREF or Virgin Islands Government Retirement Plan, and a
comprehensive group medical and dental insurance program. If applicab=
le,
economy jet fare to St. Thomas for the successful candidate and
immediate family and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid =
by
the University upon presentation of receipts.
