FACULTY POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Integrated Systems Coordinator/Catalog Librarian (Tenure Track)
Department of Library Systems and Operations (LSO)/Technical Services
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide system administration and staff support for the integrated library
system (ILS), currently PALS. Participate in the selection and installation of
a new ILS to be implemented in 2000. Serve as primary contact to the system
vendor. Facilitate local system documentation and staff training for all ILS
modules. Coordinate system reports and statistics. Provide user support to
the member libraries of Ferrisnet, a small, multi-type library consortium
sharing the ILS. Assist library administration in promotion and
expansion of consortium membership and services. Collaborate with the
Automation Librarian and other library staff to provide high quality electronic
information services. Share cataloging responsibilities with other members
of the LSO department. Coordinate activities of designated technical staff
and/or student assistants. Participate in other library services including
reference, collection development, and liaison program to academic
departments. The successful candidate will be involved in planning of the
opening of a new highly electronic, technologically advanced university library
facility in 2001.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required - ALA accredited master=92s degree in library or information science;
at least three years of relevant library experience; demonstrated experience
with client/server applications, information standards, and a bibliographic
utility, preferably OCLC; knowledge of AACR2, MARC tagging and other
aspects of current cataloging practices; awareness of current trends in library
and information systems; excellent organizational and problem solving skills;
ability to work both independently and collegially in a rapidly changing
environment; customer service orientation with strong commitment to
responsive and innovative support; and excellent oral, written, and
interpersonal communications skills.
Preferred - Experience in system migration and data conversion; library
systems experience in a consortial environment; working experience in an
academic library; training and supervisory experience; skills in project
management; and second master's degree.
SALARY:
$38,000.00 (minimum), for a 12-month tenure-track faculty appointment with
rank. Comprehensive benefits are provided (after applicable eligibility and
accrual periods) including 20 days vacation, 2 days personal leave, paid
holidays, insurance (health, dental, vision, life, disability), medical
reimbursement account, retirement system options, e.g., TIAA-CREF, with
university contribution, and tuition waiver.
