LAMA offers preconference on managerial competencies

"Implementing Managerial Competencies: Practical Applications"
sponsored by the Library Administration and Management Association
(LAMA), Personnel Administration Section, Staff Development and
Economic Status and Staff Welfare Committees will be held on Friday,
June 25, prior to the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans. The
deadline for registration is May 21.
More and more organizations are incorporating individual competencies
into their hiring and performance management systems. Competencies
are focused on what people actually do. Competencies offer a framework
for organizations to use to focus their limited resources.
This hands-on workshop that explores how to apply managerial
competencies in the workplace. After a keynote/overview, participants
will work in small group breakout sessions focusing on applying
competencies in three primary areas: hiring, staff development and
performance evaluation.
The preconference is designed for managers, supervisors, staff
development personnel.
The faculty includes: Beth Avery, Lamar University; Katherine Deiss,
Association of Research Libraries; Joan Giesecke, University of
Nebraska-Lincoln; Beth McNeil, University of Nebraska; Lincoln;
Frances O'Brien, West Virginia University; Kathy Ray, University of
the Pacific; Shiree Teng, University of California-Berkeley.
