The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is looking for someone
whose expertise is technology, but who can clarify these issues for the
non-technical librarian.  Job duties include:  1) consulting with Texas
librarians (academic, public, school, special) on topics related to
library technology and, 2) implementing a continuing education program
in library technology and related topics.  Areas of expertise may
include: public access catalogs, circulation, technical services,
catalog maintenance, acquisitions, serials control, authority control,
retrospective conversion, union catalogs, USMARC formats, media booking,
local and wide area networking, telecommunications, Internet, HTML
coding, and web page design.

Position Announcement:
Head, Information Services Department

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Public
Services, the Department Head provides leadership and management for
services and staff of the Information Services Department.  Supervises and
evaluates 9 librarians and 6 staff responsible for departmental services,
including reference desk service, electronic resources and services,
library instruction, and government documents.  Develops and implements
departmental goals and objectives.  Works closely with the Head of
Collection Development to coordinate activities of subject librarians.
Participates in division/library-wide planning. The Head participates in
reference desk service, with some evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school
required. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of successful management experience in
library public services, particularly reference.  Demonstrated success in
supervision, planning, innovation, and the use of technology to meet the
needs of library users.  Effective reference, instructional, and user
education skills; strong commitment to services for undergraduates,
graduates, and faculty; demonstrated excellent communication skills;
ability to work well in teams as well as in individual situations.
Experience with electronic databases and Internet resources.

Salary:  $44,000 depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits
package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred
annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week;
no state or local income tax.

Library Information: The Information Services Department consists of
programs in reference services, electronic resources and services,
instruction, government documents, and an Electronic Publications Center
which offers  public access to more than 100 electronic databases from 150
workstations.  The Information Services Department provides reference
service to patrons at a centralized reference desk in the main, M.D.
Anderson Library.

The Libraries are a member of the Association of Research Libraries, hold
over two million volumes, with a current materials budget of $4.2 million.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
COORDINATOR OF LIBRARY INSTRUCTION

Responsibilities: Coordinates dynamic and diverse Library Instruction
Program, including goal setting, outreach, training, program evaluation,
and publication of print and web instructional materials.  Leads planning
for instructional programs using new technologies in an organization
committed to the use of electronic resources; coordinates instructional
classes and tours, which draw upon twenty-five librarians and staff;
develops effective outreach and publicity for instruction programs,
including serving as liaison between the library and the required English
program; coordinates and develops instructional materials for all media;
trains librarians and staff in instructional methods and practices; stays
current with theory, practices and issues related to instruction; devises
strategies for providing instruction to remote users, distance education
students, and special user populations. The Coordinator reports to the Head
of Information Services and directly supervises one librarian and one
staff, and indirectly supervises .5 FTE staff and two student assistants.
The Coordinator provides reference desk service, with some evening and
weekend hours, and may be responsible for collection development in
appropriate subject areas.

Qualifications:  Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and
relevant instruction experience are required.  Experience in the
application of new technologies  to instruction (including HTML and web
page design) and successful supervisory experience are preferred.  Must
have excellent teaching skills, knowledge of instructional methods and
electronic instruction tools, excellent written and oral communication
skills, and a strong public service orientation.

Salary: $31,000. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement
programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available;
release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.
