Discover hidden resources on the Web specifically designed to help you
manage the problem of information overload.
Continuing Education Program at the Faculty of Information Studies,
University of Toronto will be offering an Internet-based course on
current awareness services on the Net, May 3 to June 14, 1999.
This is a seven-week course conducted over the Internet that covers:
Table of contents services for leading journals and related document
delivery services.
Electronic newsletters.
Personal profiles at major news-service sites.
Push delivery to individuals and corporate networks.
Major news sources on the Web including access to online versions of
newspapers, radio and TV transcripts.
Personal agents for ongoing delivery of tailored information.
The first week will be orientation to the course and its resources. A
certificate of completion is awarded to all who submit the six
assignments for review and comment on some of the selected services.
Instructors: Gwen Harris and Rod Chapman are information consultants.
Gwen Harris is an instructor in the Faculty of Information Studies
Continuing Education program and the School of Continuing Studies,
University of Toronto, and co-author of The Internet Guide. Rod Chapman
is an information broker in Calgary, Alberta. His company, Knowledge
Navigators, specializes in custom research and current awareness services
for corporate clients.
Requirements: Computer with Internet connection and personal e-mail
account.
Browser software: Versions 3.0 or above of Netscape or Internet Explorer.
Price: Price is $240 Canadian ($180 US) and includes a six-month
subscription to The Internet Guide, an extensive web-based learning
