Any numeric database available on the network through e-mail?

Dear networkers,
I want to know if any scientific numeric databases are available on the
networks so that users can access by sending e-mail.
For example nucleic acid/ protein sequences databases are available on
a NETSERVer at European Molecular Biology Lab. Heidelberg at the
e-mail address: "netserv@embl-heidelberg.de" And a user can send e-mail
to this for retrieval of required data from these databases; also one
can get help documentation to know more...
I am interested to know if any such databases which provide hard data
in physical sciences and engineering are available from any university
on the network. For instance Thermodynamic Research Centre, Texas A&M
University, College-Station has a sizable database of Thermodynamic
Properties and there must be a number of such centres with such
databases. Is any of them making their databases available on the
network for accessing through e-mail?
