New Faculty Position -- Outreach Services Librarian

Position Description:  The Baylor University Libraries
Librarian to supervise the Libraries' Resource Sharing Unit and assist
the Head, Library Outreach Services with other outreach services
activities.  This position will report to the Head, Library Outreach
Services.  S/he will manage a unit with 5 FTE staff and 5 student
assistants which processed 41,739 transactions during 1997/98.
Responsibilities include the administration of and participation in the
Resource Sharing Unit's daily operations; and, in consultation with the
Head, Library Outreach Services, the establishment of goals and priorities
for the Unit.  The librarian will work with other library faculty to
develop and explore new services and technologies for resource sharing
and other outreach services, including service to distance education
students.  The librarian will represent Baylor at local, regional, and
national meetings and consortial meetings, including Big Twelve Plus and
TexShare and will also serve on University and library committees as

Qualifications:  ALA-accredited MLS; experience with interlibrary loan,
commercial document delivery services, OCLC, and online catalogs;
experience with the evaluation, installation, and instruction in use of
related software; demonstrated speaking, writing, and interpersonal
skills; demonstrated commitment to scholarly and professional activities;
ability to adopt and manage new technologies; and experience in supervision
and training.  Highly desired are post-MLS professional library experience;
experience with instruction and instructional technologies; and evidence of
creativity and initiative.

Rank/Salary: Assistant Professor/ $30,000+ (dependent on experience) for
12 months, tenure-track.  Librarians have 20 vacation days and a standard
package of fringe benefits.  Texas has no state income tax.
