Register by March 12, 1999, to take advantage of advance registration
rates (a 15% discount from onsite rates) for the Association of
College and Research Libraries (ACRL) 9th National Conference, "Racing
Toward Tomorrow," which will be held in Detroit, Michigan, April 8-11,
1999.

Highlights of the conference include:

--Pat Schroeder, President and CEO of the Association of American
Publishers, and James Neal, Sheridan Director of the Milton S.
Eisenhower Library at Johns Hopkins University, will participate in an
Open Forum on Copyright and Fair Use to kickoff the conference.

--Michael Rosenzweig, a biologist at the University of Arizona, will
explore possible alternatives to traditional methods of scholarly
publishing during his keynote address, "Reclaiming What We Own:
Expanding Competition in Scholarly Publishing."

--Blenda J. Wilson, president of California State University,
Northridge, will present "Shifting Gears: A University President's
View."  She will discuss the many changes universities face today: the
nature of the student body, distance learning, alternate funding,
public expectations, and the impact of technology. Wilson will
recommend how librarians and libraries can plan for these
changes*changes that, from a university
president's perspective, are necessary for the new millennium.

--More than 200 programs and roundtable sessions where you can hear
the latest in academic library research and practice.

--200 exhibitors showing their latest products and services.

Registration fees include admission to all programs, the exhibits,
two lunches, an opening reception, a reception at the
new Museum of African American History, and an "after-hours"
reception with ACRL at the renowned Henry Ford Museum.
