Position: Art & Architecture Slide Curator (HEO Assistant)

Description of duties: The City College Library is seeking a
service-oriented, innovative and enthusiastic visual resources specialist
willing and able to work effectively in a demanding environment. The
Slide Curator is responsible for managing and staffing the two analog
slide collections of the Art Department and the School of Architecture,
in consultation with those units; for training and scheduling hourly
personnel; for planning and developing digital access to visual
resources, including the creation of a digital Image Center incorporating
cutting-edge imaging technology and technology-based information systems;
for providing reference services and research assistance to users in
support of the curriculum and student and faculty scholarship in art and
architecture; for providing instruction in the use and critical
evaluation of information resources and systems including the World Wide
Web; and for performing collection development and maintenance duties for
visual resources. Reports to the Chief Librarian.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of
relevant experience working in a visual resources collection containing
slides. Preferred: Background in art or architecture and graduate
work in these or a related subject discipline. Working knowledge of major
online information services, scanning and imaging systems, multimedia
software, Mac, HTML, Windows applications and Internet structure and
access. Ability to assess and integrate appropriate complex and rapidly
evolving information technologies into the collections and instructional
program. Copy photography experience and familiarity with installation of
displays or exhibits and standard museum methods (basic preservation,
proper storage, inventory control of works of art).
Salary: $32,062-$55,930, commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Liberal fringe benefits. Appointment effective 9/1/99.

Librarian for Interlibrary and Document Delivery Services
The North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and
nominations for the position of Librarian for Interlibrary and Document
Delivery Services. The NCSU Libraries, operating in a technologically
sophisticated environment, is aggressively pursuing the development and
improvement of user-centered delivery services of physical and digital
materials. The Libraries is seeking a customer-focused, creative,
action-oriented individual with proven leadership skills and a
demonstrated interested in providing excellent interlibrary and document
delivery services. The successful candidate will have the opportunity
to develop a rapidly expanding area that includes interlibrary and
document delivery services, and that will include delivery of materials
to on-campus users, to distance learners, and to extension agents. The
current unit is one of three in the Access and Delivery Services
Department and is composed of 1 librarian (this position), 5 support
staff and 4 FTE student assistants. Last year, NCSU Libraries provided
almost 19,000 items and borrowed 14,000 items through delivery services.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Head of Access and Delivery Services, has
responsibility for developing, managing, and improving an array of
on-campus and off-campus delivery services. Works with the department
head and two other librarians as a part of a management team committed
to continual improvement of services in the areas of access services,
current periodicals, interlibrary and document delivery services,
microforms, and media. Leads the library in innovative customer-focused,
cost-effective delivery services. Participates in library-wide policy
development related to resource sharing. Works closely with photocopy
services which is responsible for providing journal articles requested
by other libraries. Establishes and maintains performance measures for
delivery service activities; evaluates and revises delivery services
workflows and search methodologies. Monitors, tests, and implements new
technologies; serves as liaison to the Triangle Research Libraries
Network for delivery services issues. Serves on library-wide committees
and task forces, and is active professionally.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum three years relevant library
experience. Significant experience in bibliographic searching and
verification using various tools, databases, and online catalogs such as
OCLC, DIALOG, etc. Familiarity with new and emerging technologies, and
a strong client-centered orientation. Ability to work in a rapidly
changing environment characterized by a growing demand for services.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly,
knowledgeably, and personably, both orally and in writing.
Preferred: Three years relevant post-MLS experience; management or
supervisory experience. Demonstrated analytical and statistical skills.
