Descriptive Cataloging: Monographs

  Description:
This workshop provides a practical approach to cataloging monographs (books)
using
Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2) and other cataloging tools. Participants
will
learn the main elements of a cataloging record,how AACR2 is organized, and how
to use
AACR2 rules for description and choice of entry. Participants should bring two
books to
catalog to the workshop, as well as their own copy of AACR2.

Who should attend:
Librarians and paraprofessionals performing original and copy cataloging of
monographs,
who  want either to update their cataloging skills or to learn more about the
organization
and structure of AACR2.

Prerequisite:
Familiarity with searching for bibliographic records on OCLC. Participants
should also
review Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2), 2nd rev. ed.,Introduction and
Chapters 1, 2, and 21 prior to attending the workshop.
