POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Librarian II Systems Librarian
Tarleton State University seeks a self-motivated and service oriented
librarian. Reporting to the Division Head for Public Services, this
individual manages all library automation applications in a dynamic,
service-oriented university library.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES. Manages all library automation applications
and assists in the development of new applications of information
technologies. Responsible for the day-to-day management of the
Library's Local Area Network (LAN). Provides system evaluation by
monitoring system performance. Supports online system for all modules
of the DRA library automation system. Responsible for the organization
and coordination of the daily activities required to operate the online
system on an ongoing basis. Maintains in-depth knowledge of development
in computers, new technologies and bibliographic networks and utilities
as they apply to library operations. Supervises student assistant(s)
assigned to the maintenance of the Library network, hardware, and
software. Provides reference and information services to a wide variety
of patrons. Maintains familiarity with all phases of circulation and
provides counter service whenever needed. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS. ALA accredited MLS. Minimum of 2 years of
experience in an academic library setting and experience with
computer-based technology. Familiarity with DRA library automated
system, VMS operating system, PC based operating systems (Window NT)
and TCP/IP and Internet protocols.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS. General knowledge of OCLC/MARC record
structure.
SETTING. The Dick Smith Library, Tarleton State University is located
in Stephenville, Texas, 60 miles southwest of Fort Worth and is a part
of the Texas A&M System. Tarleton State University supports
undergraduate and graduate programs on a campus of approximately 6,500
students. The library is committed to offering the latest in
information technology.
SALARY & BENEFITS. Begins at $25,750 for 12 months; choice of medical
and retirement programs; no state or local income taxes; state vacation
and holidays.

The Mary Couts Burnett Library at Texas Christian University is
seeking an entry level Computer Support Librarian. This position is
responsible for: 1) Managing a 45-station networked computer lab,
including staffing and training student workers, providing technical and
research assistance to students working in the lab, and acting as
liaison to the campus computing center that maintains lab hardware and
the LAN; 2) Maintaining the library's public and internal Web sites;
3) Training and assisting staff with microcomputer applications; 4) Four
to eight hours per week work at the Reference desk; and 5) supervision
of a Library Assistant II and 10-15 student workers.
The position reports to the Assistant University Librarian for
Automated Systems. Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited library
school; experience using online systems and Internet resources;
demonstrated proficiency at using the HTML markup language; experience
using relational databases; experience with software installation and
troubleshooting; strong communications skills. Previous experience with
computer networks, academic libraries, and authoring of training
materials and courses desirable. Preference will be given to candidates
