Senior Librarian/Reference Librarian
The Queens Borough Public Library invites applications for the position of
Senior Librarian/Reference Librarian in the Central Library's Cyber Center,
a unit of the Information Services Division.
The Cyber Center houses 48 Public Access Computers with printers offering
customers: full, unfiltered Internet Access; Microsoft Office 97 and access
to our web based OPAC, which uses DRA's Web2 software. Twelve of these
workstations can be used for classroom instruction and are enhanced with CJK
software for the input and display of these non-roman alphabets. One
workstation is enhanced with adaptive technology for customers with special
needs.
Responsibilities: Public Service to customers using the Cyber Center.
Facilitate and provide training, both one on one and in classes, to
customers and staff in the use and support of the computers and the
library's electronic resources. Develop materials to assist in the use of
the Cyber Center facilities including: references cards, tip sheets,
recommended Internet Sites and other electronic resources. Develop and
maintain a Cyber Center reference and circulating book collection. Identify
and recommend new software and technology. Provide coverage at other public
service posts in the Information Services Division. The position reports to
the Cyber Center Supervisor.
Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program and one year public
library experience. The applicant must have strong oral and written
communication skills, training abilities, excellent listening and other
interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation. Must work
well with all levels of staff and customers regardless of their
technological expertise. Knowledge of the Internet, the use of a library
OPAC, web browsers and the Microsoft Office 97 Suite is essential. Preferred
qualifications include relevant information technology experience in a
public library environment and experience with Windows NT, DRA and
Networking.
Salaries and Benefits: $32,511 as Senior Librarian. Benefits include: Three
weeks paid vacation; paid medical insurance; participation in NYS Retirement
System

Responsibilities: Coordinates the ongoing development and maintenance
of the University of Houston Libraries' Internet and Intranet Web services.
Oversees the operations of the Innovative Interfaces INNOPAC integrated
library system. Reports to the Head of Systems.
The Libraries are a leader in providing state-of-the-art electronic
information services. Their Electronic Publications Center has over 140
public workstations. Over 80 networked electronic information resources
are available. The Libraries publish an electronic journal (the PACS
Review) and run the PACS-L discussion list.
Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school;
at least six months of work experience with Web site creation and
maintenance; and significant academic training in information
technology, including at least one high-level programming language
(or equivalent experience) required. Experience with INNOPAC
management (or other ILS management) preferred. NT and UNIX
background desirable. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of
staff. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and oral/written
communications skills. Ability to work well under pressure, and to

POSITION: Coordinator, Science Library, University at Albany
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Science Library Coordinator provides
leadership, administration and ensures the effectiveness of
the services and operations of the Science Library and the
Library Storage Facility. The Coordinator plans, designs,
implements and evaluates electronic initiatives in
cooperation with library and information systems
colleagues, faculty and staff and works in a collaborative
mode with a team-centered approach to problem-solving. As
a member of the Library Policy Group, the Science Library
Coordinator shares responsibility for developing and
implementing the mission and goals and broad policy
directions of the University Libraries and coordinating
initiatives with Assistant Directors and library managers.
With the senior administrative team, participates in
leading the dynamic process of change in the transition to
the digital library in a networked research environment.
Reports to the Dean & Director of Libraries. Research,
publication and service to the Libraries, university and
profession are expected to satisfy criteria for continuing
appointment and promotion.
In addition, the Science Library Coordinator provides
information and research strategy consultation for
individual library users; serves as one of a team of

POSITION: Science Electronic Resources Specialist, Instructional
Support Technician, (SL-3), University at Albany
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Science Electronic Resources Specialist
manages acquisition and implementation of multi-media and other
electronic resources recommended by faculty and Science Library
Bibliographers. The Specialist provides individual and group
training for library users of cutting-edge software for providing
information and learning experiences in the sciences. The
Specialist works closely with the Science Library Software/Hardware
Specialist, Instructional Technology Center of the Center for
Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and faculty to develop
applications for instructional technology and coordinates these

POSITION: Science Software/Hardware Specialist, Instructional Support
Technician, (SL-3), University at Albany
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Science Software/Hardware Specialist installs,
manages, tests and maintains software, hardware and electronic equipment
in the Science Library, the M.E. Grenander Special Collections and
Archives Department and the Preservation and Digital Imaging Laboratory.
The Specialist works with the Science Library Coordinator and Library
Systems Department staff to evaluate needs and recommend new hardware
and software. As a member of the Library Systems team, coordinates and
supports microcomputing and networking in the Science Library; with the

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Baccalaureate Degree with at least 12 credits in
computer science and familiarity with microcomputer operating systems.
Working knowledge of Windows 95, and DOS operating systems; Netscape,
Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, and Windows-based communication and mail
programs. Familiarity with networking technology, including TCP/IP,
Ethernet cards. Demonstrated troubleshooting and user support skills.
Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work as part of
a team as well as independently. Preferred: Experience with networked
applications in a library setting and developing Web pages. Familiarity
with library-specific database software such as ProCite, AskSam,
EndNote, or Reference Manager; relational database software such as
Microsoft Access or Oracle and interactive multimedia and audiovisual
materials.

WE ARE EXTENDING THIS SEARCH:
Digital Library Projects Liaison (Grade 57). $39,600-$64,400
Harvard University Library, Office for Information Systems. Harvard
University Library Digital Initiative is a five year project to develop
infrastructure, build digital content, and integrate digital materials
into the collections in the Harvard libraries. A key component of the
Library Digital Initiative (LDI) will be a series of internally funded
content-centered projects. The goal is to build a Digital collection of
obvious and persistent utility to the Harvard community. These projects
will be initiated and managed by individual libraries or other parts of
Harvard.
We seek a self-directed and energetic person interested in the field of
digital information to help coordinate LDI projects throughout the
five-year project. The Projects Liaison will be responsible for
providing assistance to library staff in developing project proposals,
planning budgets and in managing project plans. The Liaison will
coordinate activities between library staff and a central team of LDI
technical consultants and technical projects managers. The Liaison will
be responsible for financial processing and budgetary reporting for
funded projects. The Liaison will also monitor the progress of LDI
projects and help produce regular reports to the LDI Oversight Committee.
Job requirements include: Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years relevant work
experience including work in an academic environment and experience with
project planning and management; strong organizational, problem solving
and communication skills. The ideal candidate will also have a
familiarity with research libraries and digital library developments.
