seeking an Assistant Editor, Internet Resource Development.

Will be responsible for developing and maintaining (identifying,
evaluating, and selecting) electronic resources, including a website
database, indexing and abstracting electronic and print materials, and
assisting in development of procedures and standards.

Qualifications: extensive web searching, HTML, background in the social
sciences or international affairs, reading knowledge of any of the

MANAGER, TECHNOLOGY SERVICES DEPARTMENT - the Arlington Heights
Memorial Library is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to
fill this upper level management position.  This individual is
responsible for: coordinating the design, implementation, integration
and daily operations of the Library's automation and communication
systems, including the Library's Innovative Interfaces Automation
System, Local Area Network, Internet access, cable television
applications, e-mail, telecommunication systems and related evolving
systems.  Supervises the Technology Services Department (which
includes a Lan Administrator, Applications Specialist, two Computer
Technicians and a Clerk) and provides managerial and technical support
for the cable television consortium located at the Library. Provides
collaborative leadership in the ongoing development and implementation
of the library's technologies plan; consults with library staff,
community agencies and organizations and the public to assist in the
services that expand and enhance access to information. Devises
training materials and technical support manuals; provides
collaborative training and orientation for library staff and the
public.  Participates in the development of the Library's electronic
publishing program and assumes a role in creating information in
electronic form.

Position requires: Bachelor of Science degree with a major in computer
science and a minimum of three years experience in supervising a
technical unit.  However, other combinations of formal education,
computer related certification and/or experience will be considered in
lieu of the specified degree. Work experience in a public library
setting highly desirable.  Must be a visionary who, in cooperation
with other staff, seeks innovative uses of technology to further the
Library's service goals. Requires current knowledge and experience in
daily operations of computer systems and LANs, in integrating complex
systems, in developing and maintaining Internet services (including
the Library's web site), and in selecting and maintaining hardware.
Must be skillful in using Microsoft software and Windows and UNIX
operating systems.  Experience with library automation systems
desirable.

The starting salary range for this position is $45,510-$54,000 which
includes health/dental benefits, 4 weeks annual vacation, retirement
