The Brown University Library invites applications for a Sciences
Reference/Collection Development Librarian, Sciences Library. (Search
Extended)  Responsible for providing reference service, including assigned
desk hours, outreach such as departmental visits or research consultations,
and providing instructional tools for campus and remote users.  The
Sciences Library at Brown University houses not only the science
collections, but also serves as the School of Medicine library.  Librarians
work closely with students and faculty to determine, and to be responsible
to, their service and research needs.  Assists with the innovative use of
emerging information technologies to enhance user services.  Responsible
for all aspects of collection management including selection of information
resources, storage and deaccession decisions, academic department liaison,
budgetary management and resource sharing for assigned subjects, in
particular mathematics, applied mathematics, engineering, computer science
and physics.

Qualifications:  MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, undergraduate
degree or advanced degree in mathematics or a physical science, or proven
reference experience in a science library environment.  Demonstrated
ability to provide group/individual instruction and outreach.
Technologically savvy in current library applications including creation of
web publications and tutorials.  Must be able to work evenings and
weekends.  Preference will be given to applicants with a subject background
in mathematics.  Desired qualifications:  Familiarity with current
instructional technologies, experience in academic reference, and
collection development.  Ability to work independently as well as part of a
team, and maintain enthusiasm for a constantly changing environment.  Brown
University librarians are evaluated on initiative, creativity, and
innovation.  Brown University Library is currently involved in a strategic
planning process in order to become a more user-centered organization.

Salary: Minimum salary:  $30,200.
