iMac, a total humdinger anytime it gets even near to ethernet. I got one
for my son. I was told by his technology people that it would need special
configuration and might not work well on their system. They recommended
that I not get one. I decided they didn't know what they were talking
about so I got one at IU to bring to Earlham for my son. I requested a
standard ethernet wire off the shelf at IU and the IU folks said that
wasn't a good idea. Probably wouldn't work. OK, I have two systems telling
me it isn't going to work. Doomed to failure.

I take it to Earlham, 30 seconds out of the box I think "Oh, oh. Something
is wrong!!" Remember we are taling 30 seconds out of the box. I keep
looking at the system and the screen not knowing what to think. I mutter
to my son: Don't worry Cody, I'll fix it. Granted I have no idea what 'it'
is. My son looks at the me and then at the computer and then back at me
and says: I think it's working.

That was my problem. Everyone assured me it would fail and it worked in 30
seconds. It actually allowed me to share file son the network without
Earlham permission which was supposedly impossible.

30 seconds. the iMac. $1249 with ed discount and I'm sure Apple would give
some org and really good discount for trials in a Library. It really isn't
an NC, much too smart and much too easy.

p.s. Friday I bought a 350 mhz P2 128 meg ram 11 gig hard drive. Custom
built for another project. Tooks me 4.5 hours to get the damn thing to
stop crashing make a network connection: dial up, network and TCP/IP
configurations. I really only bought this machine because I need to check
gamma for a design project I'm working on. I do all the 'real' work on a
G3 266 Mac in the other room.
