Dear PACS-L,

The Exploratorium Learning Studio is an experimental project
which is a combination of a library and multimedia production
studio available to the public within a science musuem. One
of our goals this year is to run webcasts from the Studio on topics
of interest to wired librarians. We are pleased to have Reva Basch
as our first web lecturer and thought that this would
be of interest to you folks. I am enclosing the press release. Please
feel free to ask me or Laura Quilter any questions you have.

For Immediate Release
October 27, 1998

On Wednesday, November 4, from 7:15-9 p.m., the Exploratorium Learning
Studio and the WELL will host an evening with Reva Basch, writer, editor
and consultant to the online industry and the author of four books on
online research, including the recently published RESEARCHING ONLINE FOR
DUMMIES. Her book offers hundreds of practical tips on useful sites,
search engines, and databases, both on and off the Web. It shows you how
to find and use specialized search engines and subject guides, electronic
library catalogs and collections, reference books, newsgroups, newspapers
and magazines, and high-powered online services such as Dow Jones
Interactive, Lexis-Nexis, and Dialog. It covers just about every subject
you might want to research -- marketing, competitive intelligence,
investments, politics and current events, government information, health,
scientific and engineering topics.

In addition to her live appearance at the Exploratorium, Reva Basch is
currently available through a new WELL discussion group, Inkwell.vue at
http://www.well.com/conf/inkwell.vue/ Although only WELL members may add
to that discussion, anyone may send questions to Reva prior to and during
the Exploratorium event at
http://www.exploratorium.edu/ls/basch/questions.html

Through the Exploratorium's experimental program, Live@, Reva's talk
will be webcast live via RealAudio on November 4 and will also be made
available through a RealAudio archive.
November 4 is a free day at the Exploratorium, so there will be no
admission charge. For more information about the event, visit
