Archivist Fails to Find Acid Free Federal Electronic Records. History
and Government Accountability First to Fade.
Eleven months ago, the court declared unlawful Government Records Schedule
(GRS) 20 which had allowed for the wholesale deletion of Federal Records
in electronic format. The Archivist of the United States represented then
that revised electronic disposition practices would be implemented and
that the National Archives would comply with the court order by September
30th 1998. Instead, as the deadline approached, the Archivist appealed
the courts decision and in these final hours, seeks a stay.
The Plaintiff's Opposition to Defendant Archivist's Motion for a Partial
Stay Pending Appeal was filed September 28th. It can be read on the
Public Citizen web site at
http://www.citizen.org/litigation/stayopp.htm.
