Programmer/Analyst Supervisor and a Programmer Analyst.  Both positions
require strong development skills and experience using Visual Basic and
MS SQL Server.  The Supervisor position also requires experience with
managing teams of programmers on large-scale database projects.

PROGRAMMER/ANALYST IV - SUPERVISOR: $4558 - $6833.

DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the applications, software development, data model and
databases for the division of Continuing Education. Oversee the design
and documentation of large complex systems in an environment in which
client-server/network based applications and mainframe applications
co-exist. Responsible for the functional leadership for large-scale
application design, maintenance and upgrade projects by coordinating and
leading teams of programmer/analysts. Provide guidance for migration
from existing mainframe database to client-server platform.  Serve as
technical expert for the institutional data-model, and for most of the
programming languages/development tools to be used for maintenance and
development projects. Provide technical/creative staff with guidance,
direction and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to define tasks and redefine work in a rapidly and continuously
evolving technical environment, assess the skills and abilities of
high-level programmer/analysts, review performance, take concerted
corrective action, train, mentor and effectively recruit, and perform
other high-level human resource and development functions common to
large-scale computing environments. Ability to develop project scopes
and plans with minimal direction. Ability to delegate assignments
without loss of control. Ability to make incisive, coherent
presentations to both technical personnel and non-technical clients, and
to respond to rapid questioning on difficult and technical issues.
Project planning skills sufficient to perform critical path analysis.
Detailed working knowledge of client-server programming environment
using Visual Basic and Microsoft SQL Server. Knowledge of various
microcomputer operating systems, including DOS and Windows. Knowledge of
HP's IMAGE database system and structures, HP COBOL View/3000 would be
helpful. . Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, advanced
certificates, related field with 10 years of progressive management
experience with complex systems analysis and writing code, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.

PROGRAMMER/ANALYST III

DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Applications Manager, share responsibility
for the development of application software in all phases of the
development life cycle. Work with client/professional staff and
end-users to design, develop and code complex applications in a complex,
large-scale, heterogeneous computing environment, and to provide ongoing
support of existing applications. Write and revise application
documentation. Serve as coordinator between the office of MIS and
Financial Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to learn the business environment, goals and objectives of
client departments sufficient to internally identify new methods and
processes. Interpersonal skills to acquire the trust of clients.
Communication skills to obtain and convey information in a clear and
concise manner. Ability to understand and integrate new trends and
techniques in the art/science of application design and development.
Interpersonal skills to convey technical knowledge to, and to acquire
knowledge from, other members of a highly-skilled work group. Detailed
working knowledge of client-server programming environment using Visual
Basic and Microsoft SQL. Detailed working knowledge of Web programming
employing HTML, Cold Fusion, Active Server Pages (using JavaScript,
VBScript, PerlScript, etc.), CGI (Perl, etc.), ActiveX, and Java
preferred. Demonstrated ability to write data-driven client/server
applications for the web. Detailed working knowledge of relational
databases and database management systems. Demonstrated ability to
conceive, design, implement and maintain web applications and sites as
needed. Demonstrated ability to write clear documentation. Demonstrated
skill in database programming using Transact SQL. Demonstrated skill in
Windows NT/SQL Server administration and security. Ability to focus on
the needs of the organization when designing new systems despite uneven
expertise in the user population. Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer
Science, advanced certificates, related field with 5 years experience in
complex systems analysis and writing code, or equivalent combination of
education and experience. . Knowledge of HP3000 MPE and HP3000 XL
platform, HP's IMAGE database systems and structures, HP COBOL View/3000
would  be helpful.
