The following paper is now available as a preprint over the Web for anyone
interested in its contents:
Title: Digitizing Legacy Documents: A Knowledge-Base Preservation Project.
Authors: E. Anderson, R. Atkinson, C. Crego, J. Slisz, S. Tompson (Fermilab)
Comments: 23 p. To appear in Illinois Libraries, fall 1998. Available in

We describe a production system to scan all of Fermilab's scientific and
technical reports going back to 1972, convert them into Portable Document
Format (PDF), save them to a server for World Wide Web access, and write
them to CD discs for distribution. This project has been funded by a 1998
Educate and Automate grant from the Illinois State Library.
