Position: Head, Information Technology Department (Library faculty=
position)

Available: 1 March, 1999
Responsibilities: Provides leadership, management, and strategic planning
for the University Libraries' electronic information systems. Responsible
for the integrated library system(Innovative Interfaces), public and staff
desktop computing, as well as network and user support services for a user
community of over 50,000 and a highly decentralized full-time library staff
of 295. Provides direction in planning and implementing the applications of
new technologies. Responsible for all aspects of the Libraries' information
technology infrastructure, as well as the provision of technology, hardware,
and applications software. Participates in digital library planning.
Coordinates information technology initiatives with other units in the
Libraries and the University. Serves as the library's IT representative to
the University, OhioLINK, and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation's
(CIC) Center for Library Initiatives, as well as to other professional
organizations and programs nationwide, and develops appropriate
partnerships. Initiates, develops and assists with grant proposals. As a
member of the Administrative Staff Council and as chair of the Information
Technology Committee, takes a prominent role in general planning, budgeting
and communicating with regard to library information systems and technology.
Manages an information technology staff of 12 FTE. Reports to the Director
of Libraries.=20
Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited Masters' degree in librarianship
or an appropriate advanced degree with substantive experience in library
information technology. At least seven years of progressively responsible
experience in a large-scale, integrated information technology environment.
Demonstrated experience in the development and management of IT in a library
setting. Demonstrated knowledge of trends in library information
technology, including policy issues, and awareness of national trends in IT
relating to higher education. Proven ability to develop strategic plans and
to work in a diverse human resources environment in a participatory
management style. Excellent interpersonal as well as oral and written
communication skills. Librarians have faculty status and are expected to
meet library and University requirements for tenure and promotion, including
research, publication, and service. Highly desirable: Appointment with=
tenure.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Benefits: 22 days vacation, 15 days sick leave, 10 holidays.
Hospitalization, major medical, surgical-medical, dental, vision, and
long-term disability insurance; life insurance at 2 =BD times one's annual
salary. State retirement system, with option of eight alternative
retirement plans (including TIAA/CREF, Aetna, and VALIC).

is composed of the Main Library, ten department libraries, the University

Research and Development Center in Wooster. Staff of the Libraries is
comprised of 105 librarians and professional staff, 190 support staff, and

program of course-related instruction for upper level undergraduate and

linking state-supported academic libraries, the libraries of
community/technical colleges, the State Library of Ohio, and the libraries
of many private academic institutions. OhioLINK includes a shared central
catalog and a statewide circulation and delivery network.
